Personality/Background: As an egg, Axel seemed to be developing correctly for a chick of his species. That is until he reached the stage where his venom sac was to develop. For some reason it didn't develop and the venom that would have formed in the sac, leaked into the almost fully formed foetus. Because of this, Axel was hatched early in an attempt to save his life, something that doctors tried not to do for fear of causing loss of life shortly afterwards. Against all the odds, Axel survived, but he was terminally ill throughout his entire life. And there was no known cure for the illness he had.
When he was finally allowed to go home, it was his father who came to collect him. His mother, having seen how ill he was and how deformed he was because of that illness, had tried to disown him as was natural for any wild animal to do. His father, however, was a half-breed wyvern who lived in cities and towns his entire life, and so could not bare to abandon one so young and so desperately in need of care. The human within Lorcan prevented him from leaving Axel to the forces of nature and, after failing to get his mate and other three children to accept young Axel, left the family to take care of his son alone. The move meant that Axel had to be given a human morph at the young age of four months, but as wyverns could easily live longer than humans (much like their draconic cousins), the transformation did not change his age. This meant that Lorcan had an extremely ill baby who loved to switch between human and wyvern morphs and who was quite curious about his surroundings despite being quite timid in general to deal with on his own.
Schooling was hard for Axel. Due to his illness and the fact that his father was a half-breed, he was often bullied. His timid nature (which grew as he did and hid his sense of curiosity) did not help his cause, either. But he managed to make some friends who didn't care about his heritage or his health status, which his father was grateful for. The first of his friends, Dakarai the Atlas Bear, was always there to make sure that Axel was taking care of himself. Cara, a spinosaurus, was often the one to scare off the bullies. Lexi was there to keep the peace and often found herself helping Axel in things that he generally struggled with. So it came to no one's surprise when Axel decided he needed to follow his friends in joining the school's 'World Discovery Program' where the teachers made sure to have the four friends stay together while they were given the opportunity to live and learn in the world beyond the Isle of Dragons. It was during the World Discovery Program that Axel met Runo when he somehow found the courage to confront and get help from her after she had witnessed one of his more severe health attacks. That was when the two became friends, and the teachers finding the fifth group member to be placed under the care of Julien Guerra, Keeper of Time, who had said he could house five teenagers from the Isle of Dragons who were undergoing the World Discovery Program.
As part of the programs rules, Axel was to spend three years abroad, just enough time to finish a schooling career. This meant that he had to board within Julien's house and had to be enrolled in a nearby school, Cylus Beach High School. For the entire first year of the program, Axel and his friends made sure to explore all Argetgarm had to offer. Axel even found himself often asking Julien to take them on outings to mainland Australia, although those were saved for the school holidays. It wasn't until they were all seventeen that Dakarai suggested they find out where Mr Julien and Ms Saran (as they called their carer and his wife) often disappeared to, quickly finding themselves hiding behind Kubikuro Haythen's house as they witnessed an all in Rebels meeting. And they would have remained hidden had it not been for poor Axel giving them away with one of his many coughing fits.
Surprisingly, the Rebels were quiet friendly with them, answering any questions the group had about what was going on but at the same time, making sure that their answers were basic and didn't give too much away. But with Axel having forgotten to take his medications with him before leaving the house, Julien had to cut short their question time and take the group of five back to his house. Even so, Runo and Lexi were both curious about what they had seen and managed to convince the other three that it could be a good learning experience for them to join the Rebels. About a week later, the five friends confronted Julien and Saran about joining the Rebels. They, in turn, took them to consult with the Rebels leaders and sub leaders, who, after witnessing their morphs and learning about their backgrounds a little, made sure that their plan wasn't some short term idea before placing them into the Rebels Ancients. The only issue Axel had with all this was what their parents would think if they were able to join. As a response, Julien invited their parents to stay for a week in Argetgarm where they learned of what their children got up to and, more importantly, that they wanted to join a rather harmless gang of creatures that could morph.
Axel had expected his father to reject what he was seeing and demand his return once the school program had ended. He had seen both Dakarai's and Cara's parents demand such themselves to which his friends ignored and were subsequently abandoned. Runo's father had been more than happy to let his daughter do her own thing as she was considered an adult to his kind, while Lexi agreed to return to Australia after completing her schooling. So Axel expected to be returned home to the Isle of Dragons. He did not expect his father to allow him to stay with the Rebels. The reason for this was because Lorcan decided it was time to move himself and, within a matter of weeks, the two were permanent residents of Australia. Axel also found his family growing when, after Cara and Dakarai were disowned, Lorcan adopted them. And the Rebels were more than happy to have them as permanent members.
When Axel was twenty one, he and his family applied for citizenship in Australia. As soon as it was granted, the wyvern morpher decided to celebrate with a beach party close to home. The Rebels gangs were more than happy to help with the preparations. But what Axel did not count on was falling for one of the dancers that was part of fellow Ancients members, Chloe and Annie's, dance troupe (who had been invited to the party by Chloe, Annie and surprisingly Dakarai). Sunaam Tamil-Hassi was her name. She was a young woman who was a middle eastern refugee immigrant and who adored animals and was training to become a zoo keeper. Axel was the one who approached her after the performance and the two quickly connected. But the wyvern morpher feared that he may not be accepted by her family or even live long enough. Sunaam didn't care and took him to see her mother, the only surviving member of her family, as friends. Her mother was surprisingly supportive of her daughter's dreams and, despite Axel's fears, accepted him for who he was. The two got engaged a year later and married the following year.
Sadly, Axel continued to get sicker as he grew older and by the time of his wedding, he needed a walking aid and oxygen to help him. He was surprised one final time when Sunaam told him that she was pregnant two months after their marriage. At that point he was beginning to lose hope for life and knowing that he was going to have a child gave him back some of that hope. When their son was born, Axel named him Kye Rasul Zeki, in honour of Sunaam's father and brother as well as a childhood dream of his. Axel managed to survive another five years after Kye was born, but it was clear he was getting progressively worse. In the last few months of his life, he was barely able to get out of bed. But the one thing he kept telling his friends and family was that he had found himself in a better place since meeting them. The night before he died, Axel managed to force himself out of bed so that he could say one final good night to his son. He died in the early hours of the next morning with Sunaam keeping vigil.
